How's it going? I've been lurking around for a while and decided to throw my profile out there and see what you think my chances of being accepted into a PhD program in 2014 are.
Age :31
UnderGrad: The original grade is 90/100, I guess it is about 3.83 (with Honors and Dean's List in final year) from a university based upon the Open University of the UK system.
Degree: B.A. in Management and Economics.
Grad: 88/100 from the same university (3.7 average)
Degree: MBA Finance
GRE: Q 157/ V 152, AW 3.5. Very low I know, I haven't got much time to do it again because of work.
Toefl: 100 overall, Reading 26, Listen 23, Speak 23, Writing 28
letter of recommendation: 3 from professors for whom I wrote the seminars for in my MBA and B.A. - 1 is an ex-IMF and world bank advisor, others publish well (books and etc). They told me they would make an effort for me and write a good letter of recommendation.
Research (relevant): None, besides the seminars for B.A and MBA where I got 95-100 out of 100. Work related analysis...
Teaching: None (Besides high school tutoring a little bit), also have been a teacher's aid in high school classes..long time ago.
Work experience: During the years I have been a student I mainly worked full time jobs in an insurance consultancy company, also as an analyst in the web industry. Also I have been a private importer/enterpreneur on a small scale. So about 4-7 years of work experience all in all So this is also why my GRE sucks.
I am interested mainly in marketing because I have dealt a lot with customers and I am eager to know how they make their decisions, how their minds work, I am interested in consumer behavior (not mandatory) and also in the marketing aspect of pensions. More personally I am interested also in decision making of the consumers about their pension programs, and in behaviour/decisions regarding personal finance issues, I really want to research personal finance issues as it is a big part of my work anyway and I believe I have gained some insights on the subject of personal finance.
Alternative interest might be in Strategy/Global Business ,Web Industry Business . Maybe RIsk Insurance (but I probably won't get accepted).
So far I saw University of Florida might fit as they want 320 GRE (while I have 309), also maybe MacMaster who want 600 GMAT-maybe my GRE is around the same, also maybe U of Ontario with 75% GRE-I have around 68 percentile, but still-maybe I should give it a try?
Oh,and Finally Minnesota with 315 gre minimum
Where else do you think I can apply? I tried to check Rutgers/Rochester but had hard time finding their "minimum GRE cutoffs". SHould I try there? MAybe also Virgina-Darden?
Where do you think I have a chance with 157 GRE quant? Do you think I have anything in my profile that can overcome the bad GRE?Do you think I have any chance in the top 40? Top 50? Top 60? Top 70? I kinda gave up on top-30....or should I try there as well?
Thank you and good luck to you all.
